Great comedies to watch tonight

Count on the Flyeread review team to handpick the best comedy movies to keep you entertained. Here are just two of them which we think you will love to watch!

Bad Trip

Raunchy and foul-mouthed, this hidden-camera comedy stars Eric André and Lil Rel Howery on a staged road trip across America to reunite with a fake lost love. Along the way they stop for pranks that pull real people unknowingly into the uncomfortable action. Tiffany Haddish, the sister who busted out of jail only to find that they took her car without asking, is hot on their tail. This is a must-see comedy but certainly not for the faint of heart.

Plan B

Straightlaced high schooler Lupe, played by Teen Wolf‘s Victoria Moroles, has to hunt down a morning-after pill with her slacker friend in America’s conservative heartland. Directed by Dead to Me actress Natalie Morales, this movie is great for parents who need to talk with their kids about pregnancy, but in a cool way.

Famous one lines from famous films

If you are looking for a bit of good humour, you will love these lines from famous comedies over the years, curated by the Flyeread review team.

The Breakfast Club 1985

Did I stutter?

Eat my shorts.

Long before Bart Simpson used “Eat my shorts” as an insult and “Did I Stutter?” became an episode of “The Office,” Judd Nelson immortalized both phrases as the bad boy Bender in the John Hughes classic.

Pee-wee’s Big Adventure 1985

I’m a loner, Dottie, a rebel.

Be sure and tell ’em Large Marge sent ya.

In truth, no phrase really captures the infectious nature of Paul Reubens’s title character the way his froggy voice and honking laugh do. Kids couldn’t help mimicking Pee-wee’s signature sounds, especially as the character’s empire spread to sequels and a Saturday-morning TV series.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off 1986

Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Bueller . . . Bueller . . . Bueller

Here’s another taste of John Hughes’s mastery of meme-able dialogue. With “life moves pretty fast,” he inspired countless high school seniors with the perfect yearbook quote. Meanwhile, Ferris’s last name has become increasingly useful in our phone-obsessed times; a quick succession of Buellers is a good way to telegraph that you’re tired of being ignored.

The Princess Bride 1987

Inconceivable!

Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.

Mawwiage is what bwings us togethah today.

As you wish

Rob Reiner’s delightful adventure has a useful phrase for just about every occasion, whether you’re attending a wedding, settling an old score or in a perpetual state of shock, the way Wallace Shawn’s Vizzini was every time he declared a situation “inconceivable!”

Jordan Firstman Made The Most of The Pandemic

If you haven’t seen any of Jordan Firstman’s Instagram impressions, you’re missing out on what 800,000 of his followers already know: He’s really quite funny. Stuck at home like the rest of us, Firstman has clearly made the most of the pandemic, as many of us have tried to do, and built a strong following on social media that will surely lead to countless possibilities down the road. Not that he didn’t have those possibilities already, as Firstman is in fact a TV writer with credits for shows like Search Party and Big Mouth already under his belt. But Firstman has adapted to the realities of the modern world, and in doing so has grown his following by over three quarters of a million new fans.

“I think what I was trying to subtly do in my work is show people that inner worlds exist and you can have a really rich, deep, funny, fun inner world when the world is going to shit,” Firstman said in a Zoom interview with Katie Heaney of The Cut.

All this after Firstman’s year got off to a shaky start. He had broken up with his longtime boyfriend and creative partner, and had been informed that the show he spent four years developing would never see the light of day. His Instagram work is funny, yes, but also uplifting, and shows that good things may yet come from this pandemic.

The Animaniacs Weren’t Just For Kids…

With a recently launched reboot under its belt, many recently found the motivation to re-watch old Animaniacs episodes from the 90s, and those who remember watching the show as kids were likely surprised but just how much humor was intended for them as adults.

“They’ll get it at 8 or they’ll get it at 38.” said Rob Paulsen, who voiced Yakko and Pinky, in an interview with The Ringer. “The edict from the top,” he said, “was ‘don’t condescend to the audience.’”

Take, for example, a song from the whole episode: “‘Hix makes pix, but the flick needs fix,’ means someone made a movie that bombed,” Dot and Yakko sing in a call and response. “‘The veeps in charge are now at large’ means everyone involved is gone / ‘The plot conflicts, no beautiful chix,’ so it’s coming out on video soon / ‘They’re taking their licks, ’cause the critics say nix,’ and the editors are going to try to fix it in the mix.” Nonsensical to children, perhaps, but as adults we understand a whole lot more than we did over 25 years ago.

“It was the Warner Bros. mentality,” said writer Paul Rugg. “Disney wrote specifically for kids. ... The Warner Bros. way is: If you look at a family, you know, the dad laughs when they’re watching it, and the kids look up at the dad and go, ‘Why is that funny, Dad?’ And he goes, ‘Well, you have to understand...’”

Like many nostalgic fans we’re looking forward to more Animaniacs in the future, and you can bet we’ll be paying much closer attention to the jokes this time around.

What You May Not Have Known About The Big Lebowski

Joel and Ethan Coen certainly didn’t disappoint in 1998 when they released The Big Lebowski, still considered to be one of the funniest movies of all time to this very day. Odds are you’ve already seen the film one, two, or even seven times, so the team here at Flyeread thought we’d scour through our library to find you a couple of fun facts about The Big Lebowski that you may not have known.

The plot was only a secondary concern. The Big Lebowski is full of a lot of memorable moments and a whole lot of quotable lines, but does anyone remember all the details of the plot? Joel Coen knew some aspects of the plot may be confusing, so he chose not to focus on it. “The plot is sort of secondary to the other things that are sort of going on in the piece," he said in a DVD extra for the film. "I think that if people get a little confused it’s not necessarily going to get in the way of them enjoying the movie.”

The Dude is present in every scene. While The Dude didn’t make the movie what it is all on his own, he’s certainly the focus, and astute observers will notice that he’s present in every scene, even if it’s occasionally indirectly. For example, even if you don’t think you see The Dude in a scene, check the background, look out the window, we promise, he’s there.
