The world is in mourning today after news of Bob Einstein’s passing at the age of 76. Perhaps best known for his role as the titular character of the Super Dave tv series, which ran for 5 seasons from 1987-1991, Einstein managed to connect with a new generation of fans through regular appearances in Curb Your Enthusiasm and in season 3 of Arrested Development.
Einstein created the Super Dave Osborne character, a fearless but accident prone daredevil whose stunts would often end in disaster. Super Dave began making appearances on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour as early as the late 1960s before his own show began in 1987.
Alongside writing partner Allan Blye, Einstein won two Emmy awards for comedy writing, the first for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour in 1969 and the second for Van Dyke and Company in 1977. He also wrote for shows such as Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour and Pat Paulsen's Half a Comedy Hour, and made numerous appearances on late night television.
Born November 20, 1942 in Los Angeles, California, Einstein was the son of actress Thelma Leeds and radio comedian Harry "Parkyakarkus" Einstein. His younger brother and fellow actor Albert Brooks tweeted the news Wednesday, calling Einstein a "brilliantly funny man" who will be "missed forever." Einstein passed away after a battle with leukemia, and will be sorely missed by fans of all ages.
